25h Yoga History and Philosophy

About the event

This 25h online continuing education course in yoga history and philosophy is an insightful look at the richness of the yoga tradition.

We begin with an exploration of the Vedas, Brahmanism, and the Upanishads, and end with insights into 20th-century yogic thought. We familiarize ourselves with the central concerns of the early philosophical texts of yoga and illuminate the interface between Buddhism and yoga. We delve into the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutra, discuss the essential teachings of Advaita Vedanta, Tantra and the Hatha Yoga tradition itself. Final questions we will address are: How did the Yoga philosophy find its Way to the west, how did it affect western thinkers of the 19th and 20th centuries and what influence does it have on the perception of yoga in the east and west today?

YACEP This advanced training consists of a total of 25 lessons, which are

  • so-called 20 'contact hours' (online directly with Marion)
  • 5 'non-contact hours' for reworking, practicing + developing a teaching unit with a philosophical basic topic (which will be presented to Marion after the training)
  • plus a 2-hour final zoom meeting (in which initial experiences and questions that have arisen can be clarified in the group).

It counts as continuing education (YACEP) and can be counted towards the Yoga Alliance. After full participation, each participant receives a certificate.

Whether you are a yoga teacher looking to deepen your understanding of yoga philosophy or a student curious about the historical context of yoga, this advanced training is designed to stimulate thought while providing opportunities to reflect and challenge yogic concepts.
