About the event
This advanced study of yoga history and philosophy is an insightful look at the richness of the yoga tradition.
We begin with an examination of the Vedas, Brahmanism and the Upanishads and end with insights into 20th century yogic thought.
We familiarize ourselves with the central concerns of the early philosophical yoga texts and illuminate the interface between Buddhism and yoga. We delve into the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutra, discussing the essential teachings of Advaita Vedanta, Tantra and the Hatha Yoga tradition itself.
Final questions we will address are:
- How did yoga philosophy find its way to the West, how did it impact Western thinkers of the 19th and 20th centuries, and what influence does it have on the perception of yoga in the East and West today?
Whether you are a yoga teacher who wants to deepen your understanding of yoga philosophy or a student who is curious about the historical context of yoga, this training is designed to stimulate thought while providing opportunities to rethink and question yogic concepts.
